More of the Same
June 17
Been listening to a lot of new music lately, thanks to BitTorrent. I suggest you all check out the new album from Modest Mouse, Good News For People Who Like Bad News. It’s got some great catchy songs and melodies. It’s not exactly like their old stuff, but it’s not really different either. It’s a good summertime album.
No other bands come to mind (that I haven’t mentioned before), but I have a Weakerthans song stuck in my head. I’ll post up the lyrics and maybe you can find it online somewhere. Or, better yet, buy the album and enjoy it all the time.
So you don’t get to be a saint. Martyrs never last this long. Guess I’ll never be the one to defeat desire in a song. Here’s a marker, here’s my naked skin, our Exhibit A. Put a small x where I lost my way. All the actors broke their legs, and it’s too late to postpone. The producer’s getting high, and the audience went home. Smile and take your awkward bow. Turn and stumble off the stage. Let the rain be your applause, every encore soothe your rage. Squint with one eye, hum a show-tune, and wait for your ride to say, “Oh, that’s where you must have lost your way.” Megaphone in helicopters squel, “Hey, are you okay?” as searchlights circle where we lost our way. All our accidents went purposeful and fell, stripped of providence or any way to tell that our intentions were intangible and sweet. Sick with simplle math and shy discoveries, piled up against our impending defeat.
BENEDICTION by The Weakerthans. From the “Reconstruction Site” album.
do you have nothing better to do than post all day? geez! get back to work.
